Definitely need to look over this, this is only partially correct
Preparation
First get list of packages to install from an existing client with: dpkg --get-selections > packagesfile
Then get the standard configuration of the packages with: debconf-get-selections > configfile
- Copy both files to the new system if possible
Installation
- Install a standard installation of GNU/Debian from a Netinst-CD
Edit the entries of /etc/apt/sources.list to your convenience
Run apt-get update
Enter the configuration with debconf-set-selections configfile
Set the selection of packages with dpkg --set-selections < packagesfile
Install the selection with apt-get dselect-upgrade
Post-Installation
Make a link to perl in /usr/local/bin for the CVS
- Fix all the ldap stuff by copying from an existing client:
/etc/*ldap*
/etc/*pam*
/etc/nsswitch.conf
Make sure the bind_policy is set to soft in /etc/libnss_ldap.conf in order to avoid boot hang up due to udev not reaching the LDAP server
Fix /etc/fstab with the NFS entries
Fix /etc/auto.share on all clients according to the new share
Copy /etc/auto.master from an existing client an restart autofs
Copy /etc/exports from an existing client and restart the nfs-kernel-server
Change the gids of video, audio and plugdev in /etc/groups to 1043, so they are similiar to the workstationusers group in LDAP (semi-dirty hack)
