Crash Recovery Procedure
File server
Note: Disks and CD-ROM's are in the locker in room 517.
- boot from boot/rescue CD (e.g. RH RescueCD or Knoppix)
mount floppy labelled "recover grizzly" (e.g. on /mnt/floppy).
partition hard disk (fdisk) and make file systems on partitions (mke2fs) according to the files on the recover-floppy ([http://www.ps.uni-saarland.de/Internal/system/partiton-table-grizzly.txt partiton-table-grizzly.txt] and [http://www.ps.uni-saarland.de/Internal/system/fstab-grizzly.txt fstab-grizzly.txt]).
mount the newly created root filesystem (e.g. on /mnt/newroot) and the other filesystems on their places under the new root fs.
- Use the recover binary on the recover-floppy like this:
/mnt/floppy/recover -a -s zeus.rz.uni-saarland.de -d /mnt/newroot -q -f /
Explaination about the different cmdline switches can be found in [http://www.ps.uni-saarland.de/Internal/system/recover-howTo.txt recover-howTo.txt].
- Install LILO bootloader like this:
chroot /mnt/newroot lilo -v
- reboot
Client
- boot from boot/rescue CD
- evtually configure network
partition hard disk (fdisk) and make file systems on partitions (mke2fs). Root fs: 8GB, swap: 1GB, local: rest. If two disks are available sndlocal gets the rest of the first disk, local the complete second one.
mount the new root filesystem (e.g. on /mnt/newroot) and chdir into it.
- run the following command:
ssh -l root ps.uni-saarland.de /root/bin/remote-installer | bash
You will be asked for the root password on grizzly two times: Once for the above ssh-command, and once for the invoced scp-command copying the .ssh directory of root@grizzly (including its ssh keys) to the HOME on the boot/rescue CD you have booted from. After that, the complete installation runs automagically.
- reboot
