Installing Local Packages

Files

local-packages.tar.gz

Installation

1. download local-packages.tar.gz and unpack its contents to a subdirectory within your local TeX tree (typically $(kpsexpand '$TEXMFLOCAL')/tex/latex/local)

2. run sudo texhash

Installing and Removing Lucida Fonts

Note: The fonts are licensed by our Lab for internal use only. They are not redistributable, freely or otherwise.

Files

The fonts package: lucimatx.texmf.tar.gz

The installer script: texmftool (written by Marco Kuhlmann)

Installation (on a Mac)

1. download the fonts package and the installer script

2. cd into the directory where the two files are located and run

sudo ./texmftool install lucimatx.texmf.tar.gz

Installation (on a Linux machine)

The installer script should also work under Linux. However, make sure to set the global variables OWNERSHIP, TGTDIR, and UPDMAP (or edit the corresponding lines of the script) to match your local LaTeX setup.

As of February 2018, the following works under Arch Linux:

OWNERSHIP="${OWNERSHIP:-root:wheel}"
TGTDIR="/usr/share/texmf-dist"
UPDMAP="${UPDMAP:-updmap-sys --quiet}"

On April 2018, the following worked on Ubuntu 17.10:

In the texmftool script remove the "function" keyword before all function definitions (as sh does not accept them)

OWNERSHIP="${OWNERSHIP:-root:sudo}"
TGTDIR="${TGTDIR:-$(kpsexpand '$TEXMFLOCAL')}"
UPDMAP="${UPDMAP:-updmap-sys --quiet}"

Removal

run

sudo ./texmftool remove lucimatx.texmf.tar.gz

Installing Local Packages on Linux (alternative)

This is what worked for me on 15 Oct 2012. Christian Doczkal provided the file ps-tex.tar.gz which is a copy of the local texmf required to build assignments and lecture notes.

The following is an excerpt from this explanation.

1. Download ps-tex.tar.gz.

2. Create your local texmf directory and change current directory to it

3. Unpack that archive

4. You might need to fix the permissions

5. Create the updmap.cfg file

6. Regenerate texhash (n.b. the dot)

7. Generate maps

You should be able to build assignments and lecture notes as usual.
