Munin
Description
Network-wide graphing framework (grapher/gatherer).
Usage
Munin-Overview: https://jeremy.ps.uni-saarland.de/munin/
munin
Installed on jeremy. This is the main server that collects data from the other systems and presents it as a graph.
Note: As jeremy has been removed after being destroyed by lightning, currently there is no munin running. This page is kept for future reference in case we install a new munin server
Configuration
/etc/munin/mumin.conf
This file contains (among other options) a list of all the servers to be monitored
munin-node
Installed on all servers. This is a daemon that collects data on the systems and provides them to the master server (i.e. jeremy). Data items are collected using the munin plugins. Currently the default plugins from the "munin-plugins" package are installed.
Configuration
/etc/munin/munin-node.conf
This file mainly contains a list of IP addresses that are allowed to connect to the munin-node daemon.
Troubleshooting
<Server> is missing in the list of servers
Try "telnet <server> 4949" from jeremy. If this doesn't work munin-node is not running.
- If telnetting works check the servers greeting. It should look like
# munin node at redmine.ps.uni-saarland.de
Make sure this is the exact same name as in the configuration file! Munin is picky about that.
